5. Brief  write-up about your research work Asynchronous motors are extensively used in industrial and household appliances and consume more than 50% of the total generated electrical energy. The need for energy conservation is increasing the requirements for saving the electrical energy. It is therefore important to optimize the efficiency of electrical drive systems under certain operating conditions. Work proposes a new control scheme based on search method taking advantage of the fact, that at a certain torque and speed (operating point) there is only one value of stator voltage that operates the motor at optimum efficiency. Simulation performed and results are presented.

Brief  write-up about your research work In this research work a computational fluid dynamics investigation was conducted to analyze the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes flows through the artificially roughened solar air heater. The commercial finite-volume based CFD code ANSYS FLUENT is used to simulate turbulent airflow through artificially roughened solar air heater. It is found that among the four types of rib roughened solar air heater investigated, the maximum value of thermo hydraulic performance parameter increases in the following sequence: circular sectioned rib, semi-circular sectioned rib, square sectioned rib and equilateral triangular sectioned rib roughened solar air heater. Finally it has been observed that proposed model of artificially roughened solar air heater predicts the experimental data quite accurately. This CFD study results in significant savings in computation power and time and makes parametric studies feasible. Ultimately, this CFD model has the advantages of reduced cost, time and ability to optimize design significantly without much investment in the real experiment.

This attempts to apply Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) & Interactive Artificial Bee Colony algorithms (IABC) optimization method to tuning of parameters of conventional PSS and multiband powers system stabilizers. The proposed ABC&IABC algorithms are easy to implement without additional computational complexity, thereby they give quite promising results. The effectiveness of the proposed stabilizer, for power system stability improvement, is demonstrated by a weakly connected power system subjected to severe disturbance.The proposed ABC & IABC optimization techniques work well for single machine and multimachine power system. The performance of proposed PSS & MBPSS has been tested over a wide range of operating conditions for small and large disturbances.

Brief  write-up about your research work My work deals with the theme of evaluation of Shakespearean Tragi – Comedy from  the point  of Bharatmuni’s rasa  theory in the major tragi comedies of Shakespeare :Measure for Measure, Twelfth Night,The Winter’s Tale, A Midsummer’s Night Dream and Tempest. Its main purpose is to show that the heroes of these tragi comedies display very individual characteristics  which are adaptable to the modern ideas. The whole body of this dissertation aims at pointing out the universality of Shakespeare’s genius, since the themes which he had so skillfully  treated in his tragic comedies  are still being discussed today in the light of contemporary theories.

Two of the main factors to which we owe the tremendous popularity of Shakespeare’s work are his treatment of universal themes and his skillful portrayal of human characters. It is the aim of this dissertation to study characters and contrasts in characters as they are depicted in major tragi comedies of Shakespeare.. The theme chosen as a connecting link among them is that all traits of rasa theory of Indian literature can also be seen and analyzed and implemented on the western literature and that too  especially on Shakespeare’s work .

Through their autobiographies, we want to reach at those points which make Gandhi a Mahatma and Hitler the greatest villain. After thorough analytical study of the autobiographies this fact seems to be true. Gandhi’s perspective of life is automatically opposite to Hitler’s perspective. Hence it becomes criticism of Hitler’s autobiography in itself.

I studied these contradictory autobiographies in order to highlight the wrongness of the wrong path. When we study Gandhiji’s autobiography, the ways and views of Hitler appear more and more wrong. Gandhiji’s autobiography also suggests ways to improve one’s own life and personality. A vast volcano of positive forces is within all of us. Gandhiji’s words have the power of unleashing that positive energy.

The central concern of my doctoral work is the study of Very Low Frequency (VLF) Phenomena at Antarctica: Coordinated Observation and Analysis. During the course of this work, we have carried out coordinated study at several low latitude stations like Bhopal, Varanasi, Jammu and Agra, which are situated at different geomagnetic latitudes. We have reported many types of VLF emissions in these ports of Northern Hemisphere. The subsequent part of this work was to study the VLF phenomena at high latitude Indian station, Maitri, Antarctica. I am among the few privileged scientific have gain the opportunity to participate in the XIX Indian Antarctic Expedition of Government of India. I was the summer member for XIX Indian Antarctic Expedition team during December 1999 – March 2000 and also the member of XXVII IAE during Dec 2007 – April 2008. I have been visited Department of Pure and Applied Physics, University of Natal, South Africa under DST Programme of Science & Technology Programme of Cooperation (POC) of Science & Technology and worked with Prof. A. R. W. Hughes, Director, South African Antarctic Programme and Professor of Physics, University of Natal, South Africa.

Brief write up about your work Proposed work in Ph.D is investigated, designed, implemented and evaluated for the lifetime enhancement of WSN using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique. Sensor node is a limited energy source device and therefore it stays alive for short duration. The energy of sensor node can be conserved by reducing the redundant data Transmission over the network. Many technologies have been developed to minimize the redundant data for example compression of the data, source node selection, routing etc. Proposed work utilizes bio-inspired PSO technique to select optimal source nodes based on various quality parameters such as node’s Residual Energy, Queue Length and Signal Strength to transmit data to base station. Transmission by selected source nodes reduces the redundant data in the network which decrease the energy consumption of nodes and thus, improves the lifetime of the network.

4. Brief  write-up about your research work In the present study the potential of midrib of coconut palm leaves (MCL) have been investigated for the purpose of reinforcing plastics. A new natural fiber composite as MCL/polyester was developed and characterized on the basis of mechanical properties. The stiffness of composite against temperature was tested. The interfacial strength between MCL fiber and polyester matrix was investigated by single fiber pull-out test. This study also includes the comparison of mechanical properties of MCL/polyester with that of other NFCs with polyester as matrix. This study proposes the reinforcement of Midrib of Cocos nucifera Leaf in polymer matrix and utilizing this composite for the production of the moderate strength structural materials such as door and window panels, roof sheets, packaging etc.

Brief  write-up about your research work Conventional air conditioning systems based on vapor compression refrigeration (VCR) systems consume a large portion of electrical energy and is therefore neither eco-friendly nor sustainable. Energy consumption by air conditioning systems can be drastically reduced by using energy efficient devices thus decreasing green house emissions. Evaporative cooling (EC) systems work on the principle of utilizing the latent heat of vaporization from the incoming air to reduce the temperature of intake air and at the same time the specific humidity of air is increased. It is not only environmental friendly and sustainable technology but uses a small amount of electrical energy. Experimental set up of two kinds of high efficiency indirect evaporative cooling (IEC) systems namely dew point evaporative cooling (DPEC) system and modified two stage evaporative cooling (MTSEC) system were developed and tested at different operating conditions. The feasibility of DPEC system for Indian conditions was also analyzed. Finally a soft computing tool was modeled to predict the performance of high efficiency IEC system most accurately and efficiently

The influence of FSP parameters was studied on microstructure, hardness and tensile behavior of surface composites.

Brief Detail of Research Work Done A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) adopts a decentralized communication architecture which relies on cooperation among nodes at each layer of the protocol stack. Its reliance on cooperation for success and survival makes the ad hoc network particularly sensitive to variations in node behavior. In MANET, nodes forward the packet to other with the help of intermediate nodes within the transmission range as they are expected to cooperate to make the networks reliable. Since, node may have limited resources, some nodes (selfish node) may not forward packets to save resources for their own use. Such selfish behavior leads to degradation in the performance of the network and possibly, in the extreme case, a complete cessation of operations. Consequently it is important to devise solutions to encourage resource constrained nodes to cooperate.

Brief write-up about the research work: In this work I studied the electrical properties of some prepared polymer nanocomposite. For this work I select Epoxy resin (thermosetting)  and Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) (Thermoplastic) two different polymer as matrix and different types of fillers i.e. MWCNT, Carbon black (Industrial grade). I used a natural fibre (Sisal) also to study the effect on dielectric properties of prepared polymer composite. From these studies I published four SCI research papers.

It converts solar radiation to thermal energy of fluid and delivers the heated fluid for use. Flat plate solar collectors are designed for application requiring energy delivery below 1000C temperatures. The main applications of a solar air heater are space heating and drying. The solar air heater occupies an important place among solar heating system because of minimal use of materials and less maintenance. The artificial roughness can employed for the enhancement of heat transfer coefficient between the absorber plate and air and thereby improving the thermal performance of solar air heater.

During hot rolling process large deformation of metal takes place. Success of the process depends on the proper selection of parameters like, thickness of slab, roller diameter, roller speed, percentage of reduction, temperature, strain rate, flow of stress, generation of complex geometry, friction, controlling of material property during process etc. These complexities may result in defects during the processing of the material and hence produces the low reliable and poor quality material on the scale of industry standards.

Because of low cost, reduced maintenance, rugged and brushless construction, the induction Generator is recommended for distributed power generation. The induction machine with separate self excitation capacitance is working as SEIG (self exited induction generator).The fundamental problems with the SEIG are its inability to control the terminal voltage under varying load conditions. Hence the limitation of an SEIG with capacitor self excitation is poor voltage regulation, which results in under utilization of the machine.

4. Brief  write-up about your research work Transition metal alloys with variable valence states are widely used as structural materials in chemical process industries. However, a major problem associated with chemical industries is oxidation or corrosion. A wide variety of steel grades are being used but they offer a limited run life. In the work the effect of grain size alteration on the oxidation behavior of transition metal alloys have been investigated. The findings show that certain compositions of alloys show excellent anti-corrosion behavior and can be widely used in chemical process industries. The major findings have been verified using substantial thermodynamic data in conjunction with Ellingham diagrams.
