4. Brief  write-up about your research work Deforming the metal between rollers is subjected to high compressive stresses acquired due to the friction between rollers and metal. During hot rolling process large deformation of metal takes place. Success of the process depends on the proper selection of parameters like, thickness of slab, roller diameter, roller speed, percentage of reduction, temperature, strain rate, flow of stress, generation of complex geometry, friction, controlling of material property during process etc. These complexities may result in defects during the processing of the material and hence produces the low reliable and poor quality material on the scale of industry standards.

The variation in dry bulb temperature and specific humidity of room supply air with input parameters such as air mass flow rate, dry bulb temperature (DBT) and relative humidity of ambient air, percentage mixing of re-circulated air, cooling load capacity or room total heat outlet, room sensible heat factor, by pass factor, rotational speed of desiccant wheel and regeneration temperature of desiccant wheel are shown for all weather condition viz. hot and dry, hot and wet, cool and dry and cool and wet.

Brief  write-up about your research work Conventional air conditioning systems based on vapor compression refrigeration (VCR) systems consume a large portion of electrical energy and is therefore neither eco-friendly nor sustainable. Energy consumption by air conditioning systems can be drastically reduced by using energy efficient devices thus decreasing green house emissions. Evaporative cooling (EC) systems work on the principle of utilizing the latent heat of vaporization from the incoming air to reduce the temperature of intake air and at the same time the specific humidity of air is increased. It is not only environmental friendly and sustainable technology but uses a small amount of electrical energy. Experimental set up of two kinds of high efficiency indirect evaporative cooling (IEC) systems namely dew point evaporative cooling (DPEC) system and modified two stage evaporative cooling (MTSEC) system were developed and tested at different operating conditions. The feasibility of DPEC system for Indian conditions was also analyzed. Finally a soft computing tool was modeled to predict the performance of high efficiency IEC system most accurately and efficiently

Brief  write-up about your research work In this research work a computational fluid dynamics investigation was conducted to analyze the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes flows through the artificially roughened solar air heater. The commercial finite-volume based CFD code ANSYS FLUENT is used to simulate turbulent airflow through artificially roughened solar air heater. It is found that among the four types of rib roughened solar air heater investigated, the maximum value of thermo hydraulic performance parameter increases in the following sequence: circular sectioned rib, semi-circular sectioned rib, square sectioned rib and equilateral triangular sectioned rib roughened solar air heater. Finally it has been observed that proposed model of artificially roughened solar air heater predicts the experimental data quite accurately. This CFD study results in significant savings in computation power and time and makes parametric studies feasible. Ultimately, this CFD model has the advantages of reduced cost, time and ability to optimize design significantly without much investment in the real experiment.

4. Brief  write-up about your research work A solar collector is a special kind of heat exchanger, which collects solar radiant energy, and transfers it to a fluid usually water or air. It converts solar radiation to thermal energy of fluid and delivers the heated fluid for use. Flat plate solar collectors are designed for application requiring energy delivery below 1000C temperatures. The main applications of a solar air heater are space heating and drying. The solar air heater occupies an important place among solar heating system because of minimal use of materials and less maintenance. The artificial roughness can employed for the enhancement of heat transfer coefficient between the absorber plate and air and thereby improving the thermal performance of solar air heater.

4. Brief  write-up about your research work Friction stir processing (FSP) is recently identified as a potential technique in fabrication of surface composites. It needs to be recognized that microstructural characteristics and mechanical behavior of aluminum alloy bulk composites prepared by conventional technique are well reported, whereas systematic study on the effect of FSP parameters on microstructure and tribological performance of surface composites of aluminium alloys is not available. In the present work, surface composites of SiC, TiC, Al2O3, graphite or Sn particles reinforced AA2014, LM24 or AA5083 alloys were fabricated by FSP. The influence of FSP parameters was studied on microstructure, hardness and tensile behavior of surface composites.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1998 with an intake of 60 at undergraduate level. The present intake of department is 180 in undergraduate program and 24 in postgraduate program in Thermal Engineering. The department has qualified and experienced faculty in adequate number. Since its inception the department is fast developing in the academics and research areas. Currently it has acquired great heights in academics and research. The department has twenty one well equipped and functional laboratories. It is an approved Research Center of RGPV, Bhopal for research work.

Many activities including projects at undergraduate program and post graduate program, seminars, workshops, conferences and industrial visits/interactions are the regular part of the academics. Department has successfully and timely completed AICTE-MODROBS project of Rs. 15 Lacs for the establishment of research facility in I.C. Engine Lab under the guidance of Head of Department as the Principal Investigator.Research assistance for paper presentation and travel grants for India and abroad are provided by LNCT and government agencies like MPCST, AICTE, DST etc.

The SAE Collegiate Club of the department participates in activities at national and international level. Its members have designed and manufactured cars and participated in BAJA and SUPRA events and secured positions.
